The physical transportation of goods from one place to another is called shipping. After production and packaging of goods, the transport (shipping) of goods from a warehouse to a customer is handled by a logistics company.
As in many logistics processes, the dimensions of the goods are of great importance in shipping. Based on previously acquired master data a decision on the size of the packaging can be made.
The volume of the goods has furthermore a direct impact on the costs to the shipping service provider. For international shipments, the dimensions are mandatory for customs clearance.
